Hungry Flats: East of Lucia [first edition]

Hungry Flats is a personalized history of the author who was raised on a large ranch in the Coastal Foothills of Central California. Going from a young cowboy to managing tens of thousands of cattle and hundreds of thousands of acres led him through some interesting and sometimes harrowing experiences. No other location could have provided him with the unique backdrop that this country offered as he worked his way through interesting, and sometimes humorous, adventures with his ultimate objective being to save the family ranch. He has recorded things that are little known and will never happen again in Hungry Flats, or in many cases, anywhere in the world.Despite being hidden in the foothills of the Santa Lucia Mountains, this unique little community has had surprising connections with the outside world. Though the population is only 279 people, notables like Father Sera, De Anza, Fremont, Hearst, Eisenhower, Rommel, and Steinbeck are just a few of those who passed this way on their way to fame. Now known as Lockwood Valley, it is still sleeping - East of Lucia.
