G+. Some slight soiling to front wrapper, with general handling and edgewear to both front and back wraps. Rubbing to spine corners, and spine itself is sunfaded though still legible; head of spine slightly bumped. Internally, a very brief Father's Day gift inscription to inside of front wrapper; no other names, marks, highlighting, underlining, or dogears. Pages are still clear and free of toning, and glued binding is still holding up well. An excellent reading copy. Delves into the history of logging in the northern forests of America in the days of "ax and peavey" before motorized chain saws and loggers who smoke cigarettes showed up. The author states in the Foreword that he personally has over thirty years' experience in such logging, and much of the book is based on his deep personal logging expertise and knowledge of lumberjack lore. "Because they have been so scurvily ignored by academic historians and because we shall probably never see their like again, I have tried to set down an honest picture of the American lumberjack, at work and at play, as he has performed for the past three centuries. Only the lumberjack of the timbered North is considered. Logging in Southern pine and cypress is a story in itself and it deserves to be written by someone who knows the subject." Reprint of 1938 original, second printing thus, July 1980.
