Robert Lee Surtees was one of the great cinematographers of motion picture history. He made a total of seventy six films in a fifty four year career. He was the recipient of three Academy Awards. Those films were “King Solomon’s Mines“, “The Bad and the Beautiful“, and “Ben Hur“. He received a total of seventeen nominations for such films as “The Graduate“, “The Last Picture Show“, “Mutiny on the Bounty” with Marlon Brando and also “A Star is Born” with Barbara Streisand. His last film shot in 1978 was “Same Time Next Year” with Alan Alda and Ellen Burnstyn. He worked with such great directors as Elia Kazan, William Wyler, Vincent Minnelli, Mike Nichols, Bob Fosse and George Roy Hill.
