Thirty-two papers presented at the Gilding Conservation Symposium held at the Philadelphia Museum of Art in October 1988 comprise an interdisciplinary compilation of current gilding conservation and historical information, exploring the use of various types of gold and silver leafs and many of the problems that afflict gilded surfaces (furniture, decorative arts, architectural ornamentation, panel paintings, and polychrome sculpture) from ancient times to modern.
