Gentleman's Progress: The Itinerarium of Dr. Alexander Hamilton, 1744

In the summer of 1744, a young physician named Alexander Hamilton set out from Annapolis, Maryland on a journey which would take him north as far as Maine. He visited cities, villages and taverns along the Atlantic coast, recording his humorous observations in a diary, which is reprinted here.
