Each of the four characters in Gauntlet plays entirely different from the others, which is an outstanding achievement. The wizard is an exile from a real-time role-playing Game, and his attacks include pressing two buttons simultaneously to switch from basic fireballs and icy beams to full-on cyclones that are called up to Level the playing field. The warrior engages in top-down combat directly. The Valkyrie is a tactical, defensive, and defensive class. The elf Game is similar to a twin-stick shooter. You're playing solo; you'll restart each Level numerous times because an average grunt can kill you in three hits while you don't kill enough enemies to get a skull coin, the Game's illusive version of a continuous. The warrior, for instance, uses a spin technique similar to Zelda, and the Valkyrie tosses her shield like Captain America. However, the anticipated catharsis of wiping out entire enemy fields at once is nowhere to be seen. Instead, each of the four characters has different crowd-control skills.
