From the Upper Sea to the Lower Sea (Pihans)

This volume publishes twenty-papers on the history of Assyria and Babylonia as a Festschrift for A K (Kirk) Grayson. Following a biography of Grayson, the well-presented contributions examine the textual, epigaphic, material and iconographic sources for the region, combining to produce a multi-disciplinary picture of ancient Assyria and Babylonia. Subjects include: Babylonian forgeries; the Assyrian presence in Syria; maceheads from Tell Mohammed in the BM; Middle Assyrian private letters; waal slabs in the palace at Khorsabad; royal inscriptions; the Sargon stele; the use of year-names in reconstruvting the first dynasty of babylon; Babylonian chronicles and scientific texts; the Assyrians as collectors; Darius I.
