From Chateau to Log Cabin: An Existentialist in search of America

Patrick de Sercey, presents a vibrant account of life as seen through the eyes of his personal experience: his early childhood as a member of the French nobility, his childhood interrupted by World War II, his family home occupied by Nazi troops, and following the war his departure to America. Living among the wealthy East Coast segments of society he encounters the American educational system with its evaluations and judgments. Joining the American army, he is soon a foot soldier in the Korean conflict. All portrayed with the lightness of his natural humor and the profoundness of his emerging existential philosophy. Later, as a professor at various universities in the departments of Philosophy and Psychology, and ten years spent as a practicing psychotherapist, he emerges with keen insights about the structure of American society. Paralleling his physical journey he recounts the story of the emergence of the psyche from primeval ceremony and art ultimately resulting in the disconnected imposition of a logical structure on living human beings by external organizations.
