Located in the centre of Beijing and once known as the Forbidden City, the Palace Museum was the imperial palace of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It is six kilometres in circumference and has watch towers on each of the four corners of the palace wall. Twenty-four emperors resided there during its imperial history of over 560 years and they accumulated countless treasures. The Palace Museum is surrounded by a wall over ten metres high and by a 52 metre-wide moat. Renowned for its magnificent and unique ancient Chinese architectural style, the Palace Museum holds tremendous appeal to tourists, Chinese and foreign. This colourful album with a multilingual text (Chinese-English-Japanese) depicts most of it.
