He is the widely acclaimed author of stories and novels in every genre, and the creator of Destry, Dr. Kildare, and a significant contributor to the development of the short story in American literature. Born in Seattle in 1892 and orphaned early, he grew up in rural California. Eighty motion pictures have been based on his work, which is roughly the equivalent of 530 books. Once the United States entered the Second World War, Faust abandoned his lucrative writing career to serve as a war correspondent with the infantry in Italy. He was killed during a night attack on a hilltop held by the German army.
