Kenapa dinamakan bir pletok?
Konon kata bir diambil dari Bi'run (bhs Arab) yang berarti sumur/sumber air mata (dapat difilosofikan sebagai sumber kehidupan).
Berbeda dengan beer (bhs Inggris) yang memabukkan yang dibawa bangsa Eropa saat menjajah Nusantara. Penduduk pribumi tertarik dan meracik sendiri minuman nya dari rempah-rempah yang banyak disekitar rumah.
Sedangkan kata Pletok yaitu dari cara meracik minuman dimasukkan kedalam ketel/teko atau dalam bambu ditambahkan batu es lalu dikocok-kocok dan menimbulkan bunyi (koprok-koprok) pletok-pletok.
dan dari situlah nama Bir Pletok berasal.
Bir Pletok merupakan salah satu dari icon kuliner budaya Betawi (Pergub no. 11 Tahun 2007)
