Bringing together 17 essays by experts on contemporary affairs in Europe, this new volume discusses the likelihood of a major crises in the European political economy in the years to come. The first section of the book deals with the perceptual and ideological dimensions of the crises, while the second section covers its more practical and operational aspects. The essays in the third section view the crisis from the perspective of such peripheral countries as Spain, Northern Ireland, Greece, Portugal, and Hungary. The final chapters of the work evaluates the strategy of self-reliance as a general alternative policy for confronting the crises.
