Ericksonian Psychotherapy, Vol. 1: Structures Jeffrey K. Zeig

Volume 1: Structures presents the proceedings of the Second International Congress on Erickson Psychotherapy held in Phoenix, Arizona, December 1983 and includes theoretical issues and descriptions of technique. Volume 1 on Structures opens with Keynote Addresses by Paul Watzlawick and Ernest L. Rossi. The next chapters provide an overview of Ericksonian theory and approaches , including a guide to the frameworks on his hypnosis and therapy, the role of presuppositions, and the trials of becoming an Ericksonian therapist. Succeeding sections range over a number of areas of areas of fundamental importance: Therapeutic Methodologies, Perspectives of Therapy, Hypnotherapeutic Techniques, Comparisons with other techniques, Conceptual Issues, Research Forensic Issues, and Cross Cultural Perspectives. Section XII on Erickson himself presents a fascinating dialogue between Jay Haley and John Weakland. The final section is a Family Panel on Erickson's own child-rearing techniques, led by six of his eight children. The reader gets a sense of Milton Erickson, the man and father, as each of his children relates Erickson's approach to a particular childhood incident, His techniques come alive due to the warmth and intimate perspective of those who were closest to him.
