Emile Zola: A bourgeois rebel

*Henry Holt 1987 1st Hardcover Ed. Zola was a radical and rebel, a man of letters, a controversial journalize and an influence on all of European literature of his day. His most famous article was "J'accuse" about the Dreyfus affair. He was brought up on charges of defamation and subsequently fled to England. He was also disasterous in his private life, taking on a mistress with whom he had 2 children, after 18 years of marriage. He refused to abandon either woman. In today's society with everyone under a microscope, there is no counterpart to Zola and his accomplishments and failings. C8 1214
