Edward J. Le Breton; friend and benefactor [first edition]

This is a biography of both an important early San Franciscan, banker and philanthropist Edward J. Le Breton, but also of the rambunctious city of San Francisco from the Gold Rush to World War I. Le Breton was a successful banker and a devout Roman Catholic who gave much of his fortune to help the French community and to The Little Sisters of the Poor to support the elderly. This book sheds life on the boom and bust of the city's early banking industry and its taste for litigation born of family disputes and scandal.
