I am a Southern woman, by birth, education, and principles. I have been a slaveholder myself, and, if circumstances rendered it usees sary or practicable, I might be such again. With the abstract question of slavery I have nothing to do in this book. I write it as a Southern woman to the people of the South. I am and always have been one of them, and still possess the same attach.
