This work combines information from land records, tax lists, and biographical sketches to provide the reader with an overview of the early settlers of Montgomery County, Ohio. The combination of sources is a great asset to the researcher, providing a greater depth of information than would be possible with any single source. The early land records and tax lists provide specific genealogical information. In addition to these records, the author abstracted biographical information from five early sources: Rev. A. W. Drury's two-volume history of early Ohio; J. P. Hentz' account of the settlement of the Twin Valley; William E. Smith's compilation of the histories of counties along the Little Miami and Great Miami Rivers, which provides sketches of three specific areas that had been part of Montgomery County; John Edgar's recollections of growing up in a pioneer town; and a compilation of contemporary local histories published by W. H. Beers. The biographical sketches, taken from contemporary authors, not only provide items of genealogical interest, but also describe elements of daily life in early Ohio. The index lists all names found in the text. (1991), 2008, 5½x8½, paper, index, 250 pp.
