"Durango: Always A Railroad Town" is the second of five volumes compiled by Richard L. Dorman covering narrow-gauge railroading in Colorado and New Mexico. This pictorial publication focuses on the railroad aspect of the growth of Durango, Colorado, from the 1880's to the 1980's. The ten chapters in the book cover railroad facilities, structures, and equipment in Durango; D&RGW and RGS switch engines over the years; shippers, industries, and sources of revenue; the Rio Grande Southern Railway west of Durango; the D&RGW rail line to Silverton; the D&RGW rail line to Farmington, New Mexico; the D&RGW route east toward Chama, New Mexico; and more. Over 300 vintage black & white photographs illustrate the information, along with maps, diagrams, and several full-page color photographs and paintings.
