Drugs, Crime and Justice : Contemporary Perspectives

Though the drug phenomenon occupies an ambiguous position within crime and justice studies, it became apparent to the editors that, no matter which direction their focus turned--social inequality, media coverage of crime, criminal justice as industry, racism, crime causation, prison overcrowding, or expanding police powers--substance abuse and drug wars were influential dimensions for each. This collection attempts to provide readers with the factual, theoretical, and philosophical information necessary to understand the multifaceted dimensions of drugs. The articles explore the drug-crime connection, how the police and the courts approach the issues, corrections/treatment, and policy.
