Donna Galbreath assumed that her beloved town of Cedar Harbor would return to its peaceful existence after she and her neighbor Cyrus Bates solved the murder of a water board chairman Lyle Corrigan. Then the town's inept police chief, William Donniker, dies suddenly at a function honoring him. The cause of death? Monkshood, the same poison used on Corrigan. When the monkshood held in the police evidence room is found to be missing and young police office Jake Santorini is arrested, Donna and Cyrus find themselves drawn into the investigation.
