Descending into Greatness

Bill Hybels understands that moving down is never an easy matter that can be reduced to a formula. It is more than a matter of the number of digits on a paycheck or the number of possessions that one accumulates. It is instead a mindset centered on advancing the kingdom of God. Included at the end of the book is a chapter in whick Hybels discusses his struggle with the meaning and application of downward mobility to his own life. He says it is a difficult journey, but the only real option for a joy-filled life. "Like Christ, we must decend-into self-abandoment, unconditional giving, sacrifice, and death to self. And, like Christ, we will then ascend-into fulfillment, blessing, joy, and purpose."
