Delitto e castigo

The young Raskolnikov, having abandoned his studies, decides to kill an old usurer in order to prove to himself that he is an “exceptional” man, beyond good and evil. Being overwhelmed by his act and tormented by the consciousness of failure, he spontaneously surrenders himself to justice, yielding to the same norm that he believed he could go beyond. Guilt, condemnation and atonement: these are the cornerstones of “Crime and Punishment”, a masterpiece of nineteenth-century literature, a “detective” novel conceived by Dostoevsky to “dig deep into all the problems” of the soul human.
