Mai Toyama is looking for a way out of her horrific background. In the remote, hilly village of Le Choara, where it was reported that her sister, Sanae, was last seen, she enrols at Wordsworth, an all-girls hostel. Mai searches for her relatives in vain, but she quickly discovers the terrible people who prowl about the village at night. Le Choara's corridors are crowded at night with Shadow Material, a terrifying horde of dangerous monsters.
