Daughters of Jerusalem is set in North Oxford, where a seeming idyll of meadows, spires and clever, quiet families masks a Gothic undertow. The protagonists are a pair of twins, the elder of whom is consumed by secret hatred for her more secure sister, who finds their life amusingly but constrainingly absurd; and a charming but imperious boy, whose casual authority brings devastation to his peers.
