Dart, Taung and the Missing Link: An Essay on the Life and Work of Emeritus Professor Raymond Dart (The Institute for the Study of Man in Africa)

The life of Raymond Dart is a saga which straddles three, even four continents and whose ramifications permeate the history of anatomy and physical anthropology for close on 70 years. The lion's share of this work is given to the Taung discovery and what Dart made of it, the history and circumstances, as well as the implications of that remarkable find. Taung was the single most important palaeoanthropological discovery of the twentieth century. It fell into the hands of the right man at the right place at the right time.
