A single-player/multiplayer real-time strategy video game for the PC, Company Of Heroes 2 was developed by Relic Entertainment and published by Sega and is a sequel to the critically acclaimed game Company Of Heroes. Having received a rating of 18 from PEGI, Company Of Heroes 2 is set during the Second World War and the player mostly plays as part of the Eastern Front on the side of the Soviet Red Army at various parts of the campaign - from Operation Barbarossa to the Battle of Berlin. This game runs on the Essence 3.0 game engine which brings fresh technological enhancements to the game. In contrast to Company Of Heroes, Company Of Heroes 2 hosts a modified resource-generation system. In order to collect munitions, manpower and fuel credits, the player has to capture certain flagged points that are scattered across the map; once collected they can be invested to assemble one’s units. Players can capture flagged points by placing their units inside a specific zone which has no enemy units close by. To reap the benefits of a flagged point the captured territory must share its borders with the player's area. Civilian buildings can be occupied by units and used as a temporary strongpoint. The occupants of a strongpoint can be flushed out with the use of artillery or soldiers. While the Regimental Field Headquarters is the main structure of the Soviets, the Kampfgruppe Headquarters is the main structure of the German Ostheer. TrueSight, the new line-of-sight technology, improves troop visibility in combat; this technology also meticulously represents a unit’s visibility range by taking into consideration the type of unit being utilized and the environmental conditions. New weather-simulating technology further enhances the gameplay of Company of Heroes; weather conditions play a key role in the gameplay; for instance, players can die in a blizzard due to a frostbite. A series of single-player and cooperative missions collectively coined the Theater of War have been introduced to this game which details different aspects of the Eastern Front campaign from the Soviet and the German side. Furthermore, the Campaign Mode features Joseph Stalin’s Order No. 227 where players cannot retreat unless the senior officers permit them to. The combat system remains relatively the same as the original game. Also included in the Two Fronts Edition is Company Of Heroes 2: the Western Front Armies which is a standalone multiplayer offering that gives new players a nominal entry point into the humungous Company Of Heroes 2 multiplayer community. The Western Front brings players back to the narrative of the original game. This game also introduces the US Forces and the German Oberkommando West army into its gameplay. Each army has unique tactical gameplay options, team weapons, infantry, abilities, vehicles and upgrades that are available on eight seasonal multiplayer maps that are set on the Western Front. The strategic and tactical aspects of this game can be explored more with the help of the new progression system. The auto-match multiplayer allows players to battle across 31 maps; furthermore, over 1000 community maps are available on Steam Workshop.
