Originally the Portuguese immigrate Joo Fernandes brought the Braguinha in 1879 a local form of Cavaquinho from Madeira to Hawaii. There it got the name "Ukulele" ("bouncing flea) which gives the impression of Hawaiians. at the sight of the fingers moving quickly over the fingerboard of the instrument. From Hawaii the ukulele then over America to Europe and found in great harmony here in the music scene.
