1984 limited edition (Copy No. 896), Franco Maria Ricci (Milan, Italy), 9 1/4 x 14 1/2 inches tall black cloth hardcover in publisher's black card clamshell case, large color illustration to front cover, gilt design and lettering to front cover and spine. Printed on pale blue handmade laid paper, pattern endpapers, copiously illustrated with tipped-in color reproductions of artwork depicting the period, 226 pp. The slightest bit of soiling, rubbing and edgewear to covers. Otherwise, a near fine copy - clean, bright and unmarked - in a slightly rubbed and edgeworn clamshell case. Note that this is a heavy and oversized book, so additional postage will be required for international or priority orders. ~SP32~ [5.5P] Fr. Matteo Ricci (1552-1610) was an Italian Jesuit priest and one of the founding figures of the Jesuit China missions. He created the Kunyu Wanguo Quantu, a 1602 map of the world written in Chinese characters. In December 2022, the Apostolic See declared its recognition of Ricci's 'heroic virtues,' thereby bestowing upon him the honorific of Venerable.
