Cave birds: An alchemical cave drama

Part of Ted Hughes's poem sequence Cave Birds was first published in a limited edition in 1975 by the Scolar Press as a magnificent portfolio containing both fine reproductions of drawings by leonard Baskin and a number of facsimiles of the poet's work-sheets. The text of this first full general edition is somewhat altered from that which appeared in 1975, and from the dramatic re-working staged at the Ilkley Festival. Some of the original poems have been re-written; others have either been eliminated or replaced; others have been added. The original Baskin drawings are included here with others specially made for this edition. The result is a superb and haunting combination of work and image.
