Sama dengan margarin, BOS adalah produk olahan lemak nabati namun kandungan air dan garamnya lebih sedikit. Tekstur lebih lembut daripada margarin dan memiliki aroma yang menyerupai aroma butter. Bisa diaplikasikan untuk hampir segala jenis kue dan roti.
