Business Enterprise in its Social Setting sets forth Dr. Coles belief that history, properly examined, especially the field of entrepreneurial history which was relatively new at the end of the 1950s, can make a contribution to the solution of problems relating to the development and growth of total economies. The volume also constitutes a sort of progress report on the study of historical entrepreneurship, which had already been carried on at Harvard for a number of years, and which was spreading in other universities.
