Anand (Dev Anand), was a young man who had everything in plenty. Money, friends who hung around him and a bevy of females out to please him in every way possible. Yet he felt his life was lacking something. Fed up with his aimless existence, he goes away from home to find the meaning of his life. Giving up the comforts and luxuries of his home he roughs it out in the city. It is here that he comes across a number of people who are ready to accept him as one of their own, no strings attached, nothing asked for in return. Renu (Sadhana), an idealistic young girl, whose selfless love gives Anand hope; Mohan who accepts him as a brother; Nandu, Shanti and many others who with their hard work and sincerity give dignity and purpose to this hurried existence called Life. When he is with them Anand, forgets his earlier existence and is content. Will he be able to forget altogether, his earlier life of ease and luxury? Will his earlier friends and acquaintances allow him to stay away? This is a heartwarming, realistic but not dreary film from one of India's most noted directors. Hrishikesh Mukherjee. Two songs stand out, "Cheda mere dilne tarana tere pyaar ka:, by Mohamad Rafi and "Tere Mera Pyaar Amar" sung by Lata Mangeshkar.
