This little book was published by Hattie Attwood herself in 1907, more than 20 years after her trip around the world in 1883-84 aboard her father's command, the 143'bark Charles Stewart. Her 500 days at sea and in foreign ports took her from New York to Tasmania, Australia, Chile, around Cape Horn and on to Spain and Sicily, then home again. She was 17 when she left New York, and her account is youthful and delightful. It is also a detailed record of social life in many ports in the 1880s and a history of one ship and one series of passages during the last decade of deepwater sail.
