Annie Hall (1977) is a romantic-comedy directed by Woody Allen. Allen also co-wrote the movie with Marshall Brickman. Moreover, he also plays the lead in the movie along with Diane Keaton. The movie deals with the genres of modernism and psychoanalysis, and has Allen trying to figure out the reasons for the failure of his relationship with Annie, who is played by Keaton. The movie won four Oscars including the Best Picture award at the 50th Academy Awards.Alvy Singer, a comedian by profession, tries to think about why his romantic relationship with Annie Hall had come to an end a year ago. This gets him thinking about the purpose of one’s existence while he becomes increasingly aware about his guiltless sexual interest. Annie shows no great interest in sex, while Alvy is keen on discussing his previous sexual experiences. He discusses his first wife, who was not able to satisfy him sexually, and his second wife, who could not manage an orgasm. His sexual experience with Annie is different from his previous ones as she seems pretty nonchalant about sex. She is comfortable indulging in harmless flirtation, and goes to bed with Alvy without giving it much thought. She is teased by him about the men she had been with earlier, but it does not matter to her.Annie and Alvy fall in love, and decide to move in together. Alvy thinks that his feelings for her are not limited to love, but go beyond it. He brings her books about death. One day, he sees her on the arm of one of her professors in college and is furious. He confronts her over the matter, but she insists that such behaviour was acceptable as they had agreed upon a level of flexibility in their relationship. This argument leads to a break up, and Alvy is left searching for the true meaning of a relationship. He goes around the streets asking people what that think about love and delves into deep retrospection. He eventually goes back to dating, but experiences bad sex and neurosis.
