Description
The book is an investigation of the first seventy years of England's attempts to colonize New England. While it covers the goings on in both England and Mass Bay, it is more specifically focused on what happened during those years on the Sagadahoc, the mouth of the Kennebec River in what is now Maine, the very site that England initially chose to begin its colonization. The investigation follows three generations of an English family of colonists who were employed by Sir Ferdinando Gorges to erect settlements in New England.
