Throughout the literature of the Christian Near East there are stories that tell of the baptism of Iranian kings, most prominent among them being Ardashir, the founder of the Sassanid dynasty. This volume analyzes these stories within their cultural and historical context. Seen as an attempt at a political theology by Persian Christians, the study follows the stories from the middle of the 6th century into the times of the Crusades, and traces their impact into Europe and Central Asia.
