Gazania Flower Seeds:Description:Overview: Leaves typically linear to linear-lanceolate (narrow and tapering to a point), up to 10 mm wide. The leaves are pinnately lobed (feather-like) and held in rosettes arising from a stout, woody crown (that part of the stem at the ground surface). The leaves are hairless on the upper surface, but the undersides are thickly covered with soft, white hairs, except around the midrib.Flowers: The solitary flower head (capitulum) is up to 7 cm wide and held above the leaves on a stem 10 cm or more long. The capitulum consists of two types of florets: the ‘ray florets’ at the margins and the ‘disc florets’ in the centre. The ray florets are generally golden yellow, often with a dark base, but are occasionally white with a yellow band near the base. The disc florets are yellow to reddish-orange.Gazania linearis is divided into two varieties: G. linearis var. linearis and G. linearis var. ovalis. Gazania linearis var. ovalis has broader leaves that are lanceolate (spear shaped) to elliptic (broadest at the middle with two equally rounded ends) and up to 25 mm wide. Both varieties are from the same region of South Africa.Poppy Red Flower Seeds:Description:Common poppy is quite a rare casual plant in Finnish nature, although it can appear en masse from seed bank to freshly ploghed fields. Common poppy’s wonderful red flower can hardly fail to be noticed by the human eye, but bees see it completely differently through their compound eyes. They see colours and combinations of colours according to the same principles as humans, but they use a different area of the colour scale and spectrum. A bee doesn’t see red at all, but on the other hand it’s able to detect ultra-violet light. It’s difficult to imagine what a poppy looks like through a bee’s compound eye. Regarding pollination, however, an insect’s sight is what really matters. Happily though, common poppy’s colour is also pleasing to the human eye, and the species is a reasonably popular ornamental.Common poppy resembles its relative long-headed poppy (P. dubium), but they can be most easily differentiated on the basis of the form of the fruit of their capsule. There are also small differences in the hairiness of the stem and, in the size and colour of the corolla. Common poppy is the national flower of Poland.
