Outdoor UAE proudly presents the Advanced Off-Road Adventure Routes UAE and Oman by off-road driving expert Mike Nott in their pursuit to introduce and inform 4x4 drivers and off-road driving enthusiasts about the challenging routes plotted in the guidebook. The guidebook features 18 advanced routes for the seasoned off-road drivers, coupled with a bank of information about each route such as satellite maps and waypoint tables. The routes are classified by the author into a criteria of three grades according to the duration of accomplishment, the remoteness of the route, and the level of difficulty: the first, being the easiest grade and can be done in a day, the second in two days, and three days or more for the third. Among the 18 routes featured in the guidebook was Route 13, a 600-kilometer border to border route covering the whole of the seven emirates and starting from the UAE/Omani border at Dibba, reaching towards the UAE/Saudi border Empty Quarter border down south on the edge of the Rub al Khali (Empty Quarter) desert. The grade-2 classified route has a total of 179 plotted waypoints, which include the route’s petrol start, the main starting point and the petrol station finish point of the route. Nott described the route as probably the longest ‘meaningful off-road expedition in the country. The guidebook also shares several useful tips and things to remember before and upon embarking on an off-road trip such as recovery procedures, survival guides, equipment checklists, terrain type descriptions among others. The first part of the guidebook introduces a bank of good knowledge for beginners to remember on the dos and don’ts, while it serves as a review on the skills for expert off-road drivers. The guidebook is also a first in the market to incorporate a free CD that has the coordinates of each route in .GPX file, which can be loaded up in a computer or a GPS tracking device for navigation convenience.
