Description
Ричард Бринсли Шеридан (1751–1816) — один из блистательнейших людей своего времени, человек многих дарований. Он известен не только как поэт и драматург, но и как видный парламентарий, член партии вигов, выдающийся оратор. В книгу включены три знаменитые пьесы Шеридана: «Школа Злословия», «Дуэнья» и «Соперники». Эти веселые комедии нравов стали в английском театре конца XVIII века совершенно новым явлением — тогда на сценах Британии господствовала сентиментальная мелодрама. В России пьесы Шеридана тоже имели счастливую судьбу, их ставили на прославленных сценах, экранизировали. Сохранилась телеверсия замечательного спектакля «Школа Злословия» МХАТа 1952 года с участием выдающихся актеров — Михаила Яншина, Анатолия Кторова, Павла Массальского. В фильме «Дуэнья» (1978) по пьесе английского комедиографа блистали Татьяна Васильева, Евгений Леонов и Ирина Муравьева.
