Teaching Toward Tomorrow: Setting and Agenda for Modern Orthodox Education

Seventeen leading Jewish teachers and policy makers from Israel and America debate the issues facing the future of Modern Orthodox education. In the busy world of Jewish education, who has time to take a break from the frantic atmosphere of the classroom and reflect on what we are doing and where we are going? Educators are so busy addressing the urgent matters of the present that planning for the future can get short shrift. ATID believes that vision-driven education requires not only vigilance today, but also an anticipation of what tomorrow might hold. This symposium brings together the thinking of seventeen leading Modern Orthodox educators and scholars, asking them to think about the future of Jewish education in North America, to help us understand what we can expect to see in our educational work in the coming years, and what we need to study, understand, and do in order to be more equipped to handle it as it happens. Careful reflection, and strategic planning, will improve the educational thinking and practice of classroom teachers, school administrators, educational researchers, policy makers, parents, and other concerned Jews.
