The company employs a detective to track down Walker after she left her position to manage the acquisition of an automaton toy factory and left the country to please her family by returning home. Kate helps eccentric inventor Hans Voralberg, looking for living prehistoric mammoths, and his automaton train engineer Oscar in the made-up Russian town of Romansburg by loading Oscar's specially designed clockwork train with coal.
