Fading Shadows: A Korean War Odyssey

Reflections on the Korean War from a sixteen-year-old soldier who left school and enlisted in the Army two weeks before the war began. After basic training he was assigned to the Third Infantry Division, which entered the war in North Korea in November 1950. He served with it for the remainder of the first year of the war, through the Hungnam and North Korea Evacuation until UN forces again crossed the 38th parallel in the spring of 1951. As truce talks were commencing, the author's age was discovered, and he was returned to the U.S. and honorably discharged nine days before his 17th birthday. The book presents his memories of his service in the war in the context of significant battles occurring within Korea and events on the world stage.
